Here's a closeup of the finger pins tool:
the "head":
probably the internal sides of the two "prongs" should be more vertical, for better grip on the finger.
The head should be thin enough to slide under the finger without setting it too high
side by side with a standard SouthOrd small hook:
The bristle is quite battered...
Closeup of the handle:
it was an old broken file, I heated the bristle and jammed it down the handle, you can see the discoloration of the metal.
