As the title says, Hello from North Alabama. My name is Chris and I work as a locksmith. My path into all of this began with picking and I've gotten pretty decent at it. Figured I'd join and learn more about picking and impressioning.

Glad you joined. What kind of locksmithing do you primarily do?

Just when you think you've learned it all, that is when you find you haven't learned anything yet.

Honestly, I started March of last year, so I'm still new. That being said, I'd be considered a general locksmith. I have experience in Access Control, Automotive, entry, installation, and door & lock repair. Within the company, however, I've apparently established myself as the go-to guy when it comes to old or unusual locks and such. For example, I've rekeyed a hundred year old house, keeping the original locks and going so far as to make keys for the old russwin lever locks through impressioning, I've made keys to a 1940s Lincoln Zephyr (rebuild and cleaned the switch, as well), I've fixed a few old trunks from the 20s through to the late 50s.
In my working area, however, the main line of work we see is:
- 1. Entry gain
2. Rekeying
3. Installation
4. Repair
5. Automotive
6. Safe move
7. Safe entry

Looks like you are getting a nice variety of jobs. I like the old stuff, too.

Honestly, I like having a variety. From what I've been told by our automotive and safe specialists, without that variety, you burn out fairly easily.
I think I like the older stuff more because it wasn't made to be disposable and because, due to the growing scarcity of it, it's a bit more of a challenge.
