American 3700 core question

I just purchased an American 3700 and have a question on what type of core it uses? Some reading I did points to the LFIC cores but a video I watched shows a core held in by a screw down the shackle hole looked like a core like from a doorknob lock with, which is correct or will it accept both type of core? I purchased an LFIC core for it, I hope it will fit

Re: American 3700 core question
from there service manual, the 3700 looks like it takes a KIK cylinder + a bible cover and an tailpiece to interact with the actuator.

Re: American 3700 core question
As Mac said that is a key in knob/lever cylinder lock. The 3900 series is what you want for accepting Schlage large format cores.
Re: American 3700 core question
Ah damn well I'll just have to get another lock body for the LFIC core and I purchased a Medeco kik core for the 3700, the 3700 is new so it should come with the actuator right? I think that's what it's called
Re: American 3700 core question
The actuator is the part built into the lock - but a new lock should come with the right tailpiece.

Re: American 3700 core question
I'm assuming one has to purchase a specific kik format to actually use it in the padlock? You buy some medeco kik of ebay it probably wont work?

I couldn't seem to find any information on different kik cores, are they all the same? Just with different tail pieces for different door hardware?

Nope, not all the same. But most are similar enough in overall shape/size that they can be swapped around. Some have a tailpiece built in, some do not.

Re: American 3700 core question
This is right up my alley.
LFIC
Brass 3900
Aluminum 1400
SFIC
Steel 3200 - 3260
Brass 3560 - 3570
Aluminum 3100
KIK
Steel 3800
Brass 3600 - 3700
Twenglish, Hard to say if the parts baggie is included. If it says so in the description then it is otherwise it may not. I purchased several 3600 and 3700 locks which did have the baggie and some that did not but came with the cylinder cover or what ever you call that piece that goes over the KIK to use in the padlock but dont worry those parts are very cheap and Im sure someone here will help.
Korver as for your question, I would say about 90-95% of KIKs will work in these locks. Even if the KIK has the retaining cap (that piece that screws on to the back which is referred to as schlage style) it may not fit. I had 2 Medeco KIKs, 1 with the schlage style screw on cap and one without and turns out the one with the cap was too long to fit. I currently have an Assa Twin, Marks Hi-security, MTL and Medeco cylinders in 3600 bodies. Soo to add one more... Primus . im making a hi security / side bar collection of these Americans.

Re: American 3700 core question
I just received the American 3700 today and no tailpiece included the little instruction paper that came with it states that medeco cores use tailpiece model drmed6, now to see if I can find one somewhere
Re: American 3700 core question

Re: American 3700 core question
The Medeco core I got has a snap ring that holds the tailpiece on, it is also a 6 pin, should work right?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: American 3700 core question
Not with that tailpiece it wont. You need a driver instead of that tailpiece
Re: American 3700 core question
Someone should do a post to explain tailpieces and how they are different and what certain locks need etc. It wouldnt be a fun post but it would be really helpful as a hobbyist trying to match parts from ebay.
