The Environmental padlock production start?

I got me an environmental today. And locking at the stamped markings on the side, I'm wondering when they started to make this locks.

The marking says: SG 09 16

SG, speaks for itself.
09, key number
.. But 16, as in 1916 is hard to belive... Any ideas?

The patent for the lock was filed in 1981, so I'm assuming that it was around then.

Nope :( That bit of bills info in his video as to the numbers being the date is wrong. That is just a stamp for the RR that used it. Are you sure it is a 109 key?

Yes, it's a 109. I used the info from Bill, to get it picked. It opend to the 109 code in Bills keycode list/document.

As noted, the 09 does correspond to the 109 key.

Interesting that you are saying the second number isn't a build date code but rather a customer number. I've seen numbers like 45 before but there is no way the locks been in production for 45 years, so I figured it wasn't a year-date-code.

Do you have any listing of what #'s correspond to what purchasers?
