What brand of safe drilling bits do you use?

Hi there guys, in the U.K. I use Bosch multi construction(blue ones) or Alpens(red ones)
Both good for all British stuff.
I prefer Alens I think they are slightly better but not as common place as the Bosch.

I rarely sharpen although I should but in truth I rarely get time! On another note machinist that drill rig is cool! Wanted to make my, I use the strong arm rig but still up for getting creative!! Did you machine the Center spindle the threaded part or did you source this?? If so any info on where I could source something to start my project??

Thank you truth be told I hardly ever get to use the thing 90% of the safes I do get ( I am almost 100% AUTO locksmith) are firesafes with plastic 302 moslers and a few drop safes with cheap off brand swing bolts and barely any hardplate. I've been dying for just a gunsafe for a real challenge for MONTHS now.


I sourced it out found a super cheap screw with bearings and a jacobs chuck on ebay. The screw pitch was very common here in the states so it was easy to mate with a bug coupler nut. If your good with a metal lathe not that tough a project though.

As far as bits the Bosch multipurpose at the hardware store used to be my fave now I find ridiculous cheap masonry bits on ebay for less than 1 us Dollar II sharpen them myself, Altashot gave me the idea they are so cheap you dull one out you toss it over your shoulder and grab the next bit and get back into the fight. WAY better than pricey bits I agree with him.

Ive been called on to drill open 5 safe deposit box locks, single key but most dual key, guard key and customer key. I know they aren't resettable locks, I know theres S and G locks, diebold and one generic single keyway lock. I've not drilled or punched out any of these locks for probably 40 years, I left industry for awhile and back in it now again for several years.
How do you recommend I drill these out and look professional, I have all sizes of bits and holesaws I'm guessing I drill the nose out of both locks, and then punch it out from there, any one have advice or a video. Thanks anyone

if it's just an opening and not an opening AND repair, then drilling noses and punching would suffice, in my opinion.

If you're complaining about the cost of hardplate drill bits, you're pricing your safe openings wrong. While it's always good to try to preserve a bit, drill bits are EXPENDABLE; and their replacement cost should be factored into the price of your openings. I had nearly gone broke, until I learned this.
