how to recess strike on aluminum door and frame

I recently had to install a medeco on an aluminum door and frame. the strike on the door (around the bolt) and the one on the frame needed to be mortised. the door was aluminum with styrofoam inside. The frame aluminum and hallow inside. there was nothing for the screws to grab on the bolt strike.. used a piece of metal on the door strike for screws to grab and dremeled the frame strike mortise .. just wondering what the proper way would be.. We use these mounting tabs, sold by Don-Jo. You can get them from distributors like HL Flake. The one we use most is the TB215 (Page 8). Here's the catalog link.
