Masterkeying programs are too expensive, make your own!

I'm surprised at how expensive Masterkeying programs can be. I've seen a new one out for around $300 dollars. I downloaded a sample and was unimpressed.

Let me give you a few formulas to create your own pinning chart. But before that you should understand about progression sequences and such. I'm going to assume you as a locksmith know about this already.

Let's make a small MK system with only 4 change keys using Schlage.

If our MK is 256930 and we progress the last chamber then our change keys will be

CK1 256932
CK2 256934
CK3 256936
CK4 256938

To make your own pinning charts using excel I would use this formula.

MK 256932
CK 256934

BP - MIN (MK:CK)
MP - ABS (MK - CK)
TP - This formula will be explained later.

Our bottom pin formula is the MINIMUM OF THE MASTER KEY & CHANGE KEY NUMBERS only.
The master pin formula is the difference of the masterkey & change key, but by using ABSOLUTE VALUE OF THE DIFFERENCE, we don't get a negative number.

I hope some of you can understand this.... I will upload an excel file when I have time for those of you who need it.

It's really very simple to make pinning charts using a spread sheet.

Please don't waste your money on programs that to me are confusing as hell.

When you can learn to use simple formulas already built with Excel, your creative mind is your only limitation.

CLH!
You leave my GRAPHITE alone!!!

Someone should just write a javascript web app and put it up for free.

Hey... that gives me an idea...

I have a complete 64 page master key system excel sheet I just finished. All you have to do is change the top master key values and the sequence of progression chart on the front page and you have a complete 64 page system with the front page giving you master keys for 16 page groups and 4 page groups. Where do I put it up? Here?

I know this is a long shot... By any chance do you still have that file? Maybe someone else?

I thank the OP for this post, I know this is an old thread but I followed the instructions and made just what I needed. I'll try to post the file.
