In the past, sellers would sometimes place a bid through a shill account, then send a second chance offer to the top real bidder to get extra money out of them. This is why I use a sniping service - what I'll do is place a small "starter" bid (so that the auction doesn't get canceled) then place my real max value with the sniping service. As far as I can tell, the bids for that Best lock have gone well into stupid territory, and I don't have any idea why the bidding has gone into the stratosphere.

Safety First locks are normally cheap because there are so many of them, anybody can order them from the catalog. This price is just absurd.
