A couple of 83/45's gutted--you never know what you'll get..

I took apart a couple of Abus's that were by all outward appearances the same, but found that they were very different inside. One is master key-able, and one had been re-pinned with security pins that are clearly not original. I'm not sure what the pin with the two single serrations is. They don't look deep enough to be a security feature. I have a third that I'll post if I can pick it again--tried for an hour today and couldn't get it even though I've done a dozen times with no problem...go figure.

Interesting find! The serrated pin looks ok to me. Even the two spools look normal to me. But I wonder why someone put those 3 smaller pins in that padlock. I see the diameter is a lot smaller than the others, so I guess they play a lot inside those big chambers. This could cause some troubles...

Cheers :)

It didn't feel particularly difficult, at least not compared to the first one, but you can probably chalk that up to my inexperience. :)
It's a little tough to see, but the weird serration spool is in the second photo all the way on the left.

Only time I've seen a 'weak' serrated driver like that has been in a couple of Masters (140, 141) I've killed.

They look exactly the same. I wonder if that's where it came from...

Was the top of the plug been filed or something too?

No. I wonder if it had more key pins in there for master keying, but someone took them out. For some really embarrassing shots of a gutted lock, check this thread. That one also had one of those weird serrated pins in it.

The pin with the two serrations in it looks like a barrel pin to me, one of the least common security pins.

I had a pin similar to that weak serrated pin come out of my master 410 lo/to, only reason I disassembled it is because I accidentally rotated the plug 180 when I picked it, dumping the pins haha, being plastic it was easy to get apart and reassemble with some super glue

My bad I did not realize this thread was going on 3 years since it was active!
