Abloy locks?

So what are these Abloy locks all about? Has anyone had any experience with them and are they fun to pick? I have seen the vid on youtube regarding the mechanism and I hear they are very hard to pick... needing a completely different tool called a detainer pick, is that right?

Thinking of buying one off ebay and was just after some info :)

Re: Abloy locks?

All Abloy locks are not disc lock. They also make normal pin locks.

yes , this type of lock is known as the "disc-detainer" style ....in the newer abloy lock there are 11 rotating discs, with false gates....when all 11 discs are rotated to the correct position by the key,(or otherwise) the gates align allowing a bar to drop...but tensioning is a problem
in the newer ones.
ordinarily, you would tension the 1st disc, relying on the fact that the first cut is usuallly a zero...
abloy has moved the disc you would normally tension from the 1st position,to the deepest position in the lock.
even the best picker i know has yet to crack one...=/

Re: Abloy locks?

Thanks for the info, I think I'll be trying one of the older models then.

This is the one I was thinking of buying... would this be a good lock that would set me a challenge but not be impossible, if not, what one?

by all means..set your goals high, but for a primer to picking abloy,i would suggest a cheaper, lower security disc-detainer...i can post a pic if u want...
