Corbin Russwin Emhart

Here she is in all her high security unpickable greatness! Corbin Russwin Emhart 6 pin rim cylinder with interlocking pins. The key has angled cuts just like a Medeco, but have no rotation stops on them, the pin can spin 360 degrees and really screw you up. Looks like we need some interlocking pin smilies  !! Have to thank Tooly for finding this lock in a drawer of old locks. It had no key so I used a 1011MK blank and a Medeco set up on the code machine and made a key for it then made the notches in the bottom of the key for the top pin tabs to pass through. They are no longer made as Medeco sued them because Corbin used the same angled cuts (axial rotation) as Medeco. The plug will not come out the front because of the grooves in the plug, the pins must be removed from the top then the plug removed as usual.

I have actual diagrams of these locks, these are the first pictures of one I have ever seen. Do you think there is any way possible for anybody to pick one of these?
I have been in the souls of many women, but I always end up on the soles of there shoes.

I am sure someone could pick it given enough time with it. The pins rotating 360 really mess thing up and the keyway is mean!!

Re: Corbin Russwin Emhart

They ARE made. They're just not very actively marketed. We had a High school built back in 2001 that uses them, both in standard cylinders, and removable cores.

Are they marketed at all. I thought they were just made to service existing systems, you can't just call up and order one unless they have an Emhart system for you on file?

Re: Corbin Russwin Emhart

KK is correct. The terms of the legal agreement with Medeco was that Emhart could only be sold to support or extend existing systems.

AllI know about it is: We contracted to have a high school built. Brand spankin' new. No existing Emhart anywhere in our system. School has Emhart cylinders throughout.

I would like to see if they actually have the interlocking pins in them. Here is a PDF from Corbin Russwin to check out.

Re: Corbin Russwin Emhart

The problem with picking this lock (aside from the generic difficulty in getting everything set at shear) is that once you pick it you effectively trap pin the lock. There's no good way to return the plug back to the normal position and interlock all the key and driver pins. You'd need a way to hold all pins you pick at the correct height and rotation.

As always, more photos and information here http://lockwiki.com/index.php/Corbin_Emhart. One note is that Emhart is supported for existing systems ONLY. This is not a result of the Medeco lawsuit, but that lawsuit was certainly a contributing factor in the Emhart's decline.
