Hello from Hamilton, Canada

Hello everyone. I've never picked a lock before but about a week ago someone mentioned it on another forum I belong to. I then watched some youtube videos and then ended up buying a couple picks which haven't arrived yet. I'm very excited to be getting into this hobby, I guess it's more than a hobby for a lot of you :) Like I said, I have not ever tried to pick a lock but have read a couple posts here and watched some instructional videos and I can't get the thought of trying it out of my head. I have an old Master pad lock in the garage that I believe I'll try out first, when my picks arrive that is.

Anyways, this looks like a good place for the short time I've been here with a lot of info to digest.

A big welcome to you Angus... I'm Mike. Glad you're here.

This is a great place regardless of what level you're at! Something for everyone.

So what brand/type of picks did you order?

Re: Hello from Hamilton, Canada

Welcome to the Keypicking site. Definitely stop by the chat feature, there is someone there usually at all hours as this site has global reach. Also I thought I'd mention that since you are in Hamilton Ontario Canada, that you are in luck, we happen to have a local TOOOL group that meets on the first Sat of every month. If your not sure what TOOOL means, it stands for The Open Organization of Lockpickers. See www.toool.us and www.toool.nl and also www.thinkhaus.org .
We are a local Toronto, Hamilton and central Ontario hobby Lockpick group. Everyone is welcome. We would love it if you dropped by.
Again, welcome to the site here, you have some of the best pickers in the world here, right down to absolute beginners and everything in between which gives you plenty to learn from.

Cheers- Gratefuldeadbolt

Thanks for the invite GDB. So is the meetup in Hamilton on Dundurn held there every first Saturday of the month or does it go back and forth to T.O.?

Welcome from OZ.

Once you pop that old Master there will be no going back !!!!

I think Masters are made to get people into this hobby.

Wait till you start making your own picks.

Cheers.

Re: Hello from Hamilton, Canada

Well my picks came in today and I've been trying it out on that "Master" pad lock which actually isn't a Master. It says "Magnum" and is made in China but I'm assuming it's very easy to pick because I just picked it. I am pumped :) Very exciting for me right now. I'm not 100% sure what the name of the particular pic I used is called. It's a bit like a half diamond.

Now I have to figure out what exactly I did so that I can repeat the process on this lock. I'll be back.

Congratulations on your successful pick of the Magnum lock!!! Like Pandora's box, what has been let out can not be put back in. The addiction has set in.
