Hey from Oregon

Just found this site and started reading on it yesterday.. I have been picking for a couple years but until the last week or so I havent picked up my picks in about a year. I pick the normal things, master's, American, Kwikset, Schlage etc.. a couple European locks and now working on a Medeco Standard 6 pin. My best pick so far I guess would have to be a Master #19 (picked it 3 times)

I also like impressioning.. I have my own key machines - Rytan 100 duplicator, HPD Scotsman duplicode and HPC 1200 Blitz

I am disabled (been battling SSDI for over 5 years) and took up picking for something to do when the pain got too much (now pain in all joints... sucks!)

Other things about me.... I love golf (havent played in a long time now) guns, was on a dart league and was getting ready for the North American Open when all this hit me.

I love learning anything new, heck its about all I can do now a days

Welcome!
I didn't see Safe Manipulation on your list, I was able to learn here. You should give it a Spin.

I take it you have not been approved yet? Having supported others, it seems like they will fight and reject for any reason or no reason for about 6 or 7 years.

I remember the third round where the paperwork submitted by three very expensive approved specialists was rejected as invalid even though we were told explicitly, by name, to go to those three specialists. Combined they cost more than a decent new car. Next round everything, including the exact same paperwork, was approved in less than two months. It drained everything received from a civil case and then some, but it got done.

Re: Hey from Oregon

I just sent in the paperwork to ask the appeals board to either overturn the decision, or send it back to the judge.
This is my last hope, if they deny me this last time I will be screwed.

I am on the OHP health plan and my Dr found elevated something or other and wants me to see a specialist about it (a disease that attacks my muscles) which makes sence with all the symptoms I have.... But I was denied! I cant catch a break, I cant afford to go to him otherwise as I have no income. We live off what my wife gets from SSDI and believe me... its not much.

Im rambling, sorry

Re: Hey from Oregon

Yeah I know it. People think SS pays well but with a 100% disability the family member I supported now has to live off of less than 900 a moth. Honestly it's paying for itself and then some as now I can make way more money (and pay more taxes) than when I was doing that whole experience.

You probably aren't screwed though. There always seems to be more, more, more. Often everything gets rejected the first time presumably to dissuade fraud. The doctor might be trying to find new information to reinforce your case or have grounds for another attempt. That happens a lot.

Re: Hey from Oregon

I sure hope so, The letter from the judge said his ruling was final with the exception I could appeal it to the appeals board. They will do 1 of 3 things. uphold his ruling, over rule his ruling or send it back. Either way they said that if I lose this then all I could do is open another case but I have not worked in alsmost 7 years so I wouldnt qualify. I really hate when they tell you that!!!

Re: Hey from Oregon

Welcome to this forum. I understand your SSDI concerns. Here is my 2 cents on it. I know a person in my childhood hometown who collects SSDI/SSI. He is in his very late 50s. Hasn't worked at a legitimate job in 40 years, yet gets a check every month from SS. He supplements his 'income' by buying crappy cars, snowmobiles, mowers, chainsaws, etc. and 'fixes' them for resale. All his medical is paid. If he gets a runny nose, he goes to emergency room for care. He's had 2 knee operations, shoulder operations, a band put on his intestines to prevent obesity, numerous hand/arm injuries, etc. The tax payers are paying his medical and his monthly 'check'. He drives ATVs and has been injured on these countless times, but yet, too lazy to work. His attorney even told an SS review board that his 'client' would not use the same muscles he uses in recreational activities as he would use if he were employed. WTF! An attorney with no medical degree saying that!! Guess what ? His SSI was reinstated. My point is this, the system is broken and abuse runs rampant. Those with legitimate reasons for these payments are getting screwed, just as Pick-Fu is. It sucks. There's families of 3 generations deep that do this. They believe it's an entitlement.
