Picking a "civilian" American 5200. No WX proof body, no removable core (retainer is swaged in), and is non-key retaining.

I also rake an old Junkunc Bros, US Navy brass padlock.

Probably not - unless you destroy the lock. If you go to my gallery, it shows a picture of the bottom of the lock and you'll see 2 holes on either side of the keyway. That may be the way to drill into it and have it come apart.

Too much work. Besides, I like the little guy....he and I share the same physical aerodynamics. Short, fat, and a huge air drag coefficient. We can't fly very gracefully.

Nice job. I've never picked a lock with pins on both sides of the keyway. It looked like you just picked one side and then the other. I would assume that on most locks like that, the binding order could be one pin on one side then the other side or any combination thereof. Am I wrong?

No, the pins on either side of the keyway are for retaining the entire key cylinder/plug assembly - and have nothing to do with opening of the lock.

The best way that I can describe it - it's like instead of a cylinder retainer on an 1105 - you use this large cover over the cylinder and then the cover is retained to the lock body, via drift pins.

Once the pins are in - you either drill or grind the body down until you can work the cover off - pretty much destroying the lock.

That make sense?

So...on the brass USN lock were you doing more of a bypass maneuver as opposed to picking?

I think I may be confused.

[Edit: On the barrel lock, the bottom of the body has two holes (on either side of the keyway) that look to be there to accomodate the retaining pins, securing the core to the lock. Those are the pins on either side of the keyway I was talking about. It was not in reference to the double bitted keyway for the Junkunc.]

On the USN Junkunc lock it was strictly a quick rake on one side, a quick rake on the other, set a pin and it was open.

Nothing hard about it. It's all about the rake - I probably could have done it with a half-diamond - or maybe even half a snowman.

A quick rake with a bogota pops them open like a drunk cheerleader's legs.
