Any thoughts of having a challenge coin made?
Re: Membership card or lapel pin?
For extra challenge, there could be a tiny lock to pick on the challenge coin.

Hadn't crossed my mind. Could be neat though. I'd have to look and see how much a small run would cost.

The thread may have become something which you did not initially intend, and this happens all the time.
Some some of pin or subtle badge may indeed be nice (pair of crossed bogota's) to own
It would also be nice to have some locksmiths that are aware of the 'sport' and that we are not all aspiring to emulate characters in a Hitchcock film.

Plus 1 on that one.
MBI you should look at badges. I know there are smaller companies which specialise at making for example prefect badges for school. Pretty small batches and very customisable.
I would totally support challenge coins. Party cause it's cool and partly so we can support the site too.
But for it to be sensible it ought to have some exclusivity. And I do not mean just simple post count. 120 posts of "cool lock bro" or "interesting" is not really an achievement in my eyes
But that is just my idea. The Admins will pick up what they like and drop what they don't
No worries Escher 7
This turned into a pretty nice brainstorming-thread
I think it's good that we explore many ideas, options and possibilities so I don't regret the fling to a bit more certification like direction.
After all a good idea can be found by mixing together a bit of many directions.
To infinity... and beyond!

No badges, no way. Cops DESPISE that crap, that's almost sure to get you in hot water if you get seen showing that around. Depending on the circumstances, maybe even charges of impersonating a police officer. Even that cheesy HPC pick case with the flat aluminum "badge" with silk screened printing can make cops roll their eyes. If you did get stopped by a cop and searched, having a lockpicker badge would almost guarantee you being detained and questioned a lot longer than without one.
But as you say, this has turned into a brainstorming thread. It's good to hear all the ideas everyone is coming up with, both the good and the bad. I'm sure in the end it'll result in some different types of swag that we end up having made.

Not that kind of badges....
I though of sth like this:

Not even the most Nazi-souled LEO can say this is impersonating a police officer...

I don't think you have ever met the PSNI or An Garda Síochána, they sold their souls long ago
All joking aside, you do have to be careful with badges and such like as there is always somebody intent on making an issue out of it (which police are prone to do if you own something that they do not approve of)

Here police is much more interested in criminals than in badges.
But as I heard there are UK police is yet to punish someone for wearing a prefects badge
Aways, badge or coin.. I don't mind, I like the principle

Re: Membership card or lapel pin?
I hate to necrobump this thread bit I was wondering if there was any progress on any of the ideas in this thread?
I like patches. A lot of bags have hook & loop sections and you can choose to display them or not. If some locksort ones were mixed with other morale patches they would probably go more or less unnoticed unless someone was looking for it.

Will be ordering pens this week.
Priced out other items, will probably order a couple other things within a week or two after that, then it'll exhaust the initial budget and will wait a little while to order other items later.

I'm in on about anything; whatever would help support the site.

Yep, + 1 on that.
