Sparrows Pinning Mat

Just got my new Sparrows pinning mat in the mail today. The mat is larger than the LAB pinning mat by 1 inch length and width. The mat also has a raised orange bevel around the outline to act as a guard to keep pins from rolling off. I really like the endless pin trays for working on five 7-pin locks at a time.. plenty of space to have all kinds of components organized. Great they followed the advice on here and placed the trays on the top of the mat, as my hands tend to brush LAB's pinning tray occasionally knocking pins around. The material seems almost identical to the LAB pinning mat... although it feels more pliable. The LAB mat, and even the Medeco mats feel more rigid. The pinning tray trenches are deep, slightly deeper than the LAB trenches.

All in all... great design, great dark contrasting coloring, great material, sits well on the desk, doesn't slide around... awesome functionality and versatility. Definitely an upgrade over the LAB mat for a serious locksmith or hobbyist. I have yet to wash this in hot water yet so I cannot comment on how it withstands heat. Definitely worth the money if you're in the market.

Suggestions to SPARROWS: The angled trays and the angled sunray trenches coming off of the SPARROWS logo... I feel those should be positioned horizontally. Angled pinning trays may present a little bit of a minor annoyance when pinning multiple locks at once. Perhaps the large sunray trenches could be turned into small sections of the LAB/Medeco grid-style lattace. I feel the negative blank space should be made into the same lattacing.

I'd like to thank SPARROWS and UKLOCKPICKER for sending a free promo mat. You guys rock. :hbg:

Re: Sparrows Pinning Mat

Looks great!!! I've never had a pinning matt of ANY kind... but I'll admit, that looks VERY tempting. :) (maybe in another year or so)

Re: Sparrows Pinning Mat

Just a heads up that the mats will be in stock & ready for dispatch today or the next few days

The mats have some very light scratches you can only see them when you hold them up to the light
These will be at a discounted rate of $20.00 ish ..... when the scratches have been rectified the price will increase

Keep checking the sparrows web site for further details
