LAB LKG001 5 in 1 depth gauge

Anyone know what keys the slot marked MASTER is made to work with? I thought Master padlocks like K1/M1 keys but no. Talked to LAB and they say they have never heard of the problem and they have been selling this tool for 20 years.
Anyway I needed a depth tool for Master padlocks as I'm trying to do some impressining (sp) and like using the gauge to get to the next standard cut.
Thanks for your comments...

Re: LAB LKG001 5 in 1 depth gauge

I have the 5 in one LAB key gauge.
Hmm?
Never used the Master scale.

Depth
0=.272
1=.2565
2=.2410
3=.2255
4=.2100
5=.1945
6=.1790
7=.1635

You can pick up a Digital Caliper for under 10.00 at Harbor Freight.

Re: LAB LKG001 5 in 1 depth gauge

I have yet to run into a Master key that can be used on that gauge. I'm not saying those keys don't exist or that the gauge doesn't work, but I've also been curious as to which Master lock keys work on it because the few I've tried haven't correlated to anything usable for code cutting them.

Re: LAB LKG001 5 in 1 depth gauge

Thanks for the comments.
I have a set of calipers from HF and they work fine. I was just learning to impression keys and found it faster to use the gauge to file to the next cut.
The folks at LAB are looking into the problem so maybe we will have an answer one day.
Some research I did seems to show that perhaps the gauge is for one of the following lock/keys;
RUSSWIN, series N Class, pre 70, 9 cuts
DEXTER all cuts are .005 higher on the gauge
LOCKWOOD

I agree, not many would ever want or need to gauge a Master K1/M1 key.

Thanks again...

I ran into the same problem when I got my gauge. For master a got a separate gauge for around $7 on ebay and it reads the regular M keys and also the pro series keys. Its still on ebay and the seller has a few left so you might want to hurry. Sorry no link.

Surely, Someones knows what key belongs to this "Master" key decoder?!
Maybe so old the key is no longer made?
The mystery Remains.
