Re: Ever Seen One of These Before?

I dunno if it's just a standard tubular, the key looks too thin. I think it's a similar thing tho, so I see what ur saying LSA. I don't think a standard tubular pick will open it?

Re: Ever Seen One of These Before?

So it arrives today (amongst other goodies). It's French (shudda known really looking at it). From HFS, it's called the 'Profalux'. The keyway is star shaped and there's no separate 'arm' that turns the lock - there are arms above each cut.

Picking it - well pushing the pins down is the easy bit, applying tension is the tricky part. You cud use a shaved down key so long as you can get underneath the arms to get to the pins. A self impressioning device cud work but the tynes wud have to behind the arms, quite fiddly.

Re: Ever Seen One of These Before?

Sorry for the crappy pix, but I had to dig these outta the depths of my album. there is a little portion of the key that acts as a turning arm. When I bought this padlock, I was still a relative Noob. The seller touted this padlock as a "Bramah Style LOCK." Obviously, it's a little different from a Bramah ;) Its a neat padlock. It sent bidders on ebay in to a frenzy.

Looks like a variation on the Supra design.

No worries mate, it's a cool lock - I'll post some pics up when I get my camera out (which will be soon as I'm going on holiday).

It comes with 2 keys. I've picked it but only via applying tension from the cam. I've come up with a neat lockpick idea though - you cut all the cuts to their deepest but keep the minimum amount of metal there to tension the lock. Then to get to the pins you file out 'U' shaped holes through the arms. So they still provide tension but also allow a wire or pick to pass through them. It's only 5 pins so isn't too tricky to pick once you've got the tension sorted. I'm only butchering 1 of my 2 keys though so it's better work!

This method would also lend itself to self impressioning - you'd just need a collar to go around the wires. Another project! Actually, while I'm on the subject, does anyone know of the best way to make a homebrew version of the tightening collars you get on tubular picks? Can you simply buy them with varying diameters?

Those Cobra padlocks are handy, and seem well-built: they're designed to take a wide range of camlock cores, and you can swap them out pretty easily. I currently have one with a Van Lock cylinder and one with a Medeco DuraCam cylinder.
