Picks for MBI

Ok, I'm finally getting around to posting them now that he has them in his possession and is happy with them. What looks like streaks on the pick shafts is actually reflections of something nearby.

So, without further ado, for your dancing and dining pleasure, here they are:

I'm not very much so in the loop here, but may I ask what the purpose of the Bolt is?

Re: Picks for MBI

I was impressed with the pictures but now that I have the picks in hand, the real thing looks even better.

The hammered texturing on the copper is much more pronounced than it shows in the pictures. The polishing work on the steel is amazing. Elbow said he wished he could have polished them more but had to stop because the metal was getting thin. As they are, I dont' think I've ever handled lockpicks that were polished this thoroughly.

In case anyone is puzzled, wondering how practical these would be... well, they're not practical at all. They're works of art. Grossly oversized, steampunk-themed lockpicks that I commissioned Elbow to make, so I could give them to my wife as a gift. They're just designed to be displayed and look cool. Well, except for the gem pick. That one is normal sized and Elbow made that one for me, with the intention of it being used. And look cool.

The wavy one was inspired by the Bogota pick, the lightning bolt pick was inspired by the logo from the big corporation in Joe vs the Volcano, one of my wife's favorite movies. Together, I think they make a nice, contrasting pair, one is about as wavy and fluid as possible, the other ridiculously jagged.

Thanks again for making the picks Elbow, my wife is pleased with them. I'll be trying out that gem pick soon, once I find where my wife hid it.

You picked a good thread to necropost, it deserved to be bumped to the top so people could see these.

The workmanship on these picks is fantastic. The pictures don't do them justice. The best way I can describe the polishing of the steel, is to imagine that the steel parts of the pick are made of liquid mercury, which is somehow magically made to hold the shape of a pick. Truly amazing.

Re: Picks for MBI

So how many keyways have you found that 'The Bolt' fits into? ;)

That is truly some great work - something for the wall. Saw this a year or so ago, but did not want to necro post. But since it is, wanted to post my compliments to Elbow on the workmanship.

Very cool metal work! I'm pretty sure that BOLT would make a Master lock wet itself and open. LOL :)
