One of my favorite resources for locksmith tool information is the patents collection.

Here is an other link to the main USPTO site for Tobias's latest tool.
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PTXT&s1=%22%09Tobias%3B+Marc%22&OS=%22

When you patent something you are supposed to cite other similar patents that went befoe you. Tobias has cited a number of other interesting locksmith tools in this patent and they in turn cite others.

Locks, lockpicks, impressioning tools, decoders etc have been patented and if you are interested in these tools you get to learn a lot with extensive text descriptions complete with technical drawings. Many people have been able to use this information to build their own collection of DIY tools and gadgets.

There is an easy way to view patents as a pdf file at http://www.pat2pdf.org/. Key in the patent number and it gives you an easy to view pdf file.

Thanks for sharing. I too find a lot of good info in patent searches, whether it's locks, tools, etc.

Just noticed this series of posts. I thought I had scored the other day when I found and reviewed his patent for sidebar setting keys. However, upon reviewing the patent application, I saw that he only described the process in general terms without enough detail to make the keys. "Open in Thirty Seconds" and this site are much more useful. It is funny how the application tries to cover as broad a group of tools as possible, mentioning Medeco as only one example.
