Thanks Gordon! My first impression was pin tumbler Yale. After reading your post maybe it's time to give the lever locks sitting in a box another look.

If you can impression a Yale, then you can undoubtedly impression many lever locks. Good luck, and keep us informed.

BTW - Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or is your avatar a blank for a Cleveland 4-Way lock?

No tricks - it is a blank for a Cleveland 4-way. Great eye and I love that someone else knows! My love for them started with farebox locks and has expanded into padlocks as well. I have yet to pick one but have a selection of "pins" I picked up from ebay and have rekeyed a couple farebox locks.

Glad I was not imagining things.

Have tried making a key for one, but without success. But I also think they are so cool. Have the patent info including drawings. Unfortunately, the only one I have had my hands on was not mine. It was also a farebox lock that I was sent in hopes I could make a key. Considered trying to take it apart to make a working key, but it was not coming apart easily. Rather than risk damaging a lock that I was not positive on how to disassemble, I returned the lock.

Someday, I hope to get one with a key for my collection.

Since you have some, and have disassembled them before, I bet there are more members than just me who would love to see a pictoral thread on how to take them apart, and showing all the guts. If you get the time and have the inclination, please make one!

hi, all

I am new to this forum and has taken an interest in impressioning. I have read some tutorials and even watched videos on how to go about doing this. So i have a couple of pad locks with no keys and i started trying out impressiong on a yale pad lock. i have broken lots of keys and cant seem to get any impression. i tried wiggle up and down even tried to shade a marker on the blank key to see if it would show any marks. I joined this forum as i cant figure out anymore what i am doin wrong or if it was even possible to impression this yale pad lock. Also i have a master pad lock no.5 with no key, i am a total noob and i dont know how many pins this lock has or how long the original blank key is. Can anybody help me out?

It would be possible, but finding blanks for them without any side cuts would be difficult.
