Just a quick question what is a Detention lock

I've heard that they should be nearly Unpickable.

But how do they work?

I've only seen one of these up close. The key was huge, almost a quarter inch thick. (7 mm) The spring pressure was very high inside the lock and it was a multiple throw lever lock. Also had an electrically controlled feature. Not sure what the electric feature did.

I suppose the pressure was high so the convicts couldn't make a key out of flimsy stuff they had inside. I don't think you could lift the levers with a coat hanger, it would need some thick metal or it would just bend.

The lock in HallisChalmers' post is the Southern Steel 1030A mechanical sliding door lock.

Can someone tell me how much one of these bad boys go for. And can a member of the general public even get there hands on one.
