letterbox tool

evening all..
i've been offered the chance to buy a letterbox tool, however i am in 2 minds as to whether i should get it or not. for a start its not exactly 'lockpicking' but more 'locksmithing', (though i am very very interested in seeing how it works. heard a lot about this tool but not too much is available on google). the other thing is the price- at £100 for a second hand tool- it does look new however,.. do any of you locksmiths have any input / advice available/ ie is it worth getting if only to satisfy my curiosity..
like i said, there is a line between locksport and locksmithing. be very interested to hear from anyone who's had a pop with one of these. :?: :?:

Re: letterbox tool

Think its a little expencive for a hobbyest, and has no need...

Ive only heard good reports about them if you get one, and they hold there price if you decide to sell ...

Re: letterbox tool

I can't see this being of tremendous use to a hobbyist.

I found some nice pictures and an "in use" sequence.

Re: letterbox tool

thats what i thought. think i would rather spend the money on new pick types. still, it was nice to be offered one. the only way i can really justify it is if i had ambitions to become a locksmith, but thats waaaay to expensive in this current economic climate.

Re: letterbox tool

well, i went ahead and bought it (curiosity got the better of me)-arrived this morning so not had a chance yet to play with it. seems very straight forward, but will have to take it to my mums to play with, my doors are upvc with mila cylinders, so would only come in handy if i somehow managed to lock myself out with the keys still in the door on the inside (due to the key spike) might make a vid of it if anyone wants to see it in action.

Re: letterbox tool

me to. a video would be great. it looks pretty cool. i the states we dont really have those type of doors anymore so it would be useless here but if were u are there is an abundance it could help make you a few bucks if your friends lock them selves out. lol.

Re: letterbox tool

If it is the tool kit I saw on a German suppliers site, I think you may
have found a nice bit of hardware.

Re: letterbox tool

Its a useful tool in locksmith work and a good backup if you fail shimming the latch or picking the lock.
To be honest i rarely use mine a bent piece of metal will do. In fact i once heard of a criminal breaking a branch from a tree to perform the same trick haha
