Herculock 980 Bypass

Hey folks. A year or so ago I found out you can bypass these Herculock 980 padlocks. It's a pain to pick but can be opened in a second or two. I use a filed down Southord key extractor.
Take your shank and guide it in under the pins. You'll reach the back of the lock. Simply and easily lift the shank up against the pins and insert further - it will move forward slightly. Then push down towards the bottom of the keyway - you'll pull the hasp back. And bam, the lock is open.

Re: Herculock 980 Bypass

Hey UnlockD,

Thanks for sharing that info.

I have managed to bypass some padlocks in this manner but not all.

Have heard it is sometimes the cheaper ones that don't machine out the end of the keyway that don't allow this to work and also of course some of the more expensive ones have a block in the way.

Also doesn't work with ball bearing locks as the core must be turned to allow the balls to retract into the space left so there is no cam to push over with this type of bypass, but still worth a try first up.

I made a tool for this.

Re: Herculock 980 Bypass

Good to know. I have one of these locks with a unique keyway. It picked open fairly easily though.

Could you post a picture of it? Only Herculocks I've seen in my area are used to lock up electrical boxes - both inside buildings and the big electrical boxes outside. And all the ones I've seen are 980's.

Re: Herculock 980 Bypass

No, they are not zero bitted. I got them without keys, picked them open, and got blanks so that keys could be impressioned.

Re: Herculock 980 Bypass

Does this bypass work on WB padlocks of a similar type as well?

(Not sure how I missed this when it was posted...)
