Global Link Laser Scan Bogus Alarm Systems

I ran across some articles for a phony security system. I wanted to share it and realized we didn't have an alarm system subforum, so I created one. We'll see if this ends up being a popular forum or not.

Anyways, here are the articles. Cool idea, but once word spreads I'm not sure how effective they'll be.

This is one of the suggested videos after the youtube link above. Kinda cheesy, but not a half bad idea. A bit overpriced perhaps, for just being a flickering light.

The laser scanning idea is great! I wonder how much more would be to make a working one. I mean, one that actually makes something after the laser detects the intrusion.

I got this tv simulator some time ago, much more reasonable price, but doesn't work very well. The lights can barely be seen and the timer and light sensor are crap.

I have a big red "Beware of Dog" sign on my gate it seems to deter many people from coming in the yard. Not as cool a lasers though.

About 15 years ago I knew someone with a $19 fake video camera behind the front counter now days you could probably buy a low end real one for almost as cheap.

You could probably get a free one thats obsolete and being thrown out, not necessarily broken either, just replaced.

We are required to have a numbered alarm sticker from the City so the cops know you really are centrally connected and so they can fine you for false alarms. I do have legitimate alarm company stickers left over from a previous residence and I use them, but a smart burglar would notice the absence of the licence sticker. Same with the laser gadget although I think it is a great idea. Phony cameras all look the same and even my wife's kid (previous marriage) who is not that bright knew the one I put up wasn't real.

Small yappy dogs are the best deterrent.

As I see with camera systems the expense is not the camera itself, but a decent infrastructure to it. DVD recorder/HDD, that thingy which sums up the several camers's picture into 1 big picture plus you need a tasteful solution for the cables or for cable less versions keep exchanging the batteries.

Good idea Rai, do you have an idea where should I start looking?
My father's business had a few things stolen from the lobby and we were thinking about getting cameras (expensive) or fake ones.
But the best would be of course to get an obsolete one from somewhere.

I really find the idea of alarm subforum interesting. This is a particularly foggy area, or at least I know woefully few things about alarms, but I hope I'll find remedy to that in this subforum.

PS.: What exactly does it mean that the forum is restricted? Apart from "do not redistribute"?
Is it closed to unregistered users?


As my first contribution to here I found an interesting but older book called
Alarm, Sensor & Security Circuit Cookbook (1994) By Thomas Petruzzellis.
It is probably outdated(how much I don't know, maybe someone else tells me here?),
also possibly not the best book in the universe but since it's the only one I read about alarms, this is the best one I read on alarms. Ever.
EDIT. The moment I step out tothe Alarm subforum I realise that his book is already recommended thare by 10ringo10...
