Help a friend of mine, gain good karma!

Hi Everyone!

Okay, so here's the deal. A longtime friend of mine has developed brain cancer. As it is commonly known what a hardship that can be not only physically, it can take quite a financial toll as well. Her and her husband are both really great people and I hate to see such things happen to good people. Some of the folks who still live up north are organizing an event "The Susan Smith-Kennedy Benefit against Brain Cancer" to help them both in the form of personal support and also to collect donations for her and her family to assist with medical, transportation and living expenses. I am aware that it is HIGHLY unlikely that any of you know Susan and Gerry, and even so, I am asking that if you can, to please make a donation to the fund they've set up on paypal for the support of her and her family. By no means should anyone feel obligated to donate just because I am one of the site owners. I'm just trying to help Susan and Gerry out in a time of crisis, and who truly deserve any assistance they can get. If you don't donate, that is okay, if you do, then that is very generous of you and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.

Also, if you do choose to donate to the fund, please send me a PM letting me know, along with any well wishes etc. that you would like me to pass along to them. I would feel like a complete asshole if I did not at least post something asking people to find the generosity in their hearts/minds/souls and help some really fantastic people out when the universe has just dealt them a lousy hand.

If you would like to extend a hand to them, the paypal address for donations is susankennedycancerfund@gmail.com

There are details about the event at the following link:

Thanks for taking the time to read this and in advance to anyone who is able to donate in their support.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that! Life does suck sometimes. I wish I was in a better place right now, as I'd most assuredly help. Hopefully there are some members here that can help out in some way. We have a lot of great people here, so I'm sure someone can. It's easy to think you have it rough, then you hear about something like this. :( Kinda puts things in perspective. If nothing else, pass along my good wishes and prayers for them.

This is one of those awkward situations where it's hard to know what to say to the people involved. You can offer condolences, but you know that anything you say has probably already been said to them a hundred times by other well wishers. And by saying anything at all, you're just reminding them of a hardship they'd probably just as soon forget, even if it's only for a few short minutes.

In any case, I sympathize with them in their plight, and with you in having to see a friend endure it. It's good of you to do what you can to help them out. Every little bit helps.

Yes, it is one of those situations... which is why I am joining in with some others in attempting to help them from a more practical standpoint.

And thanks guys for the kind words.

Ok, something was brought to my attention by someone in chat tonight. Which was that, some people may be more comfortable with not getting a public thanks if they decide to help them out. If you do donate and wish to remain anonymous, just let me know and I'll just say "Thanks for an anonymous donation, etc..."

Well, you get the idea.

Thanks!

Wow, im so sorry that this is happening. Nobody should ever have to go through that. I'll see what mittens and i can do to help out later in the week. Whatever we can do, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks CM, even so much as the well wishes is a good thing. If you take a look at the link in the first post, there is alot more detail, and the paypal addy if you are able and desire to send cash. Also, on the facebook page for the event, her sister gives contact information in case one would want to send physical items to be used for the raffle they are doing on the 30th.

Hey there everyone!

They had the event over the weekend. I just wanted to say thanks for all the donations to those who donated anonymously. I know that Susan and Gerry greatly appreciate all the assistance given. They have both emailed me thanking me for posting here about their situation and have asked that I pass along their thanks to all who so generously donated. Please keep them in your thoughts, prayers, meditations, or whatever it is that you personally do in such times.

THANKS AGAIN!
