Best keyways

Often see people wanting to find what Best keyway they have, or how many there are. Most often, they get a link that shows this chart:



But almost never see this chart, which shows the really cool Wx series...



Anybody know of others?

Don't have a link to where I found that second chart, and only have it on my iPad. Unfortunately, my iPad won't let me upload the pictures to the server, and have to go to work. But if a mod wants to upload the pictures to the KP server, would by much appreciate it.

The majority of those Wxx keyways are theoretical and were never made. Will have to check one of my books.

A couple exceptions:

WK and WY are available. Unable to verify the others at this time. Some of the others may be available, but highly restricted.

Also think some of those keyways should be renamed to WTF.

have you tried copying one of those keys in that machine I've heard about but never seen that laser traces the profile then mills it out
I understand some of the big box store have these machines that copy the blank and then cut the keys

Have not seen one of those profile machines in Tucson at all. The two have read about online are the Easy Entree and the Key King. But have not had a chance to find one in Tucson. Would love to buy one, but an Easy Entree costs more than a decent used car.

I have heard of ones that will read what type of blank it is then use one of the same blanks from a stock, but not one that will actually make a blank.

The one I know that can do it automatically is an Easie Entrie (sp?) and it costs over $10,000.

The Easie entrie is the automatic machine. The keyway king is around $2500 and is basically a small horizontal mill. You put the slotted cutters on the shaft to cut your warding.

The Easy Entrie is a nice little machine, I remember the Germans bringing one to a LockCon a few years back. I was able to get some restricted Medeco blanks made for some S&G's in my collection. I'm still kicking myself for not getting extra blanks made. I just recently found that aliexpress sells a knock-off of the Keyway King for around $2k: http://bit.ly/1hCAgTH

A small (and much cheaper) metal lathe with a cross slide, like the Taig, would do the same if you could get the right cutters..
