I guess if there were zombies, I'd want to keep the door and lock intact and the noise level to a minimum. If it were some kind of super virus that wiped out most the population, I'd just use a cold chisel and a heavy hammer.

At over $200 for a 30" bar, the Halligan is a professional tool used by fire departments etc. A little pricey for a beginner.

If its truly SHTF, Im not caring about noise so it will either be a hammer or a 12 gauge with slugs depending on what I was trying to get into.

We had one of those to demo stuff on construction jobs. Eventually it collected dust as everybody decided a good donkey kick with boots on was the better way to remove studs. Wonderbars were like cigarette lighters.

I'm a hobby picker man. I don't spend money and postulate based on unrealistic , mpossible scenarios .

I prefer to stay in the real world.

Sorry if I seem to reply to old threads, but it seems like there are only old threads here.

To answer the question I need to state two things first, one hinted to above.

1. Criminals don't pick locks.
2. Emergency personnel don't pick locks.

So apart from destructive entry, your first step is to look around and see what locks are being used in your area. Start with the hardware stores first, notice what brands are used.
It is useless to your goal if you are picking euro locks in Spain but all you are training on is American Master locks.

Your tools need to suit the locks in your area. You also need to look at bypass first before picking. Bypass is typically faster than picking with all but the most basic locks.

There are two types of bypass: 1. Lock bypass when you bypass the pins. 2. Door bypass where you ignore the lock at together like knocking the hinge pins out.

The reason there are a lot of old posts is because the forum has been around since 2008 and various things have been talked about at various periods.
