My Christmas gift was a grinder. Anxious to start experimenting with homemade picks.

Re: Lock related presents
Be careful about getting the pick metal too hot with that grinder. If it starts glowing, the temper is lost.
Personally, when using a grinder, keep a glass of water right next to the grinder. Every couple or three seconds, dip the metal into the water and continue grinding. My picks last much longer since I started doing that.
And do not forget to sand and polish your picks once you have made them. They will work much more smoothly and are kinder to your locks. You also get better feedback.
Keep us informed on your pick making!

Just when you think you've learned it all, that is when you find you haven't learned anything yet.
Re: Lock related presents

femurat: They're called restricted for a reason...
Innerpicked: The more keys you carry, the more important you look
GWiens2001: Great video! Learned a lot about what fun can be had with a forklift and a chainsaw.
pmaxey83: but i first have to submit the proper forms for a new hobby to my wife

Re: Lock related presents
dbart... nice new toy Great advice from Gordon that's sure to shorten
your learning curve. Lookin' forward to seeing some of your results!
Always look forward to workin' on some of your locks Jeff. Unfortunately the lock room is coming together
much slower than I had hoped. Mainly been getting shelving & cabinets built and installed. No lighting or
counter tops even yet, lol. But as soon as the 'death star' is fully operational.... I'll give ya ring

The best way to keep from burning the steel is to hold the pick in your bare hand - you will definitely know when it's time to dip in water!
Re: Lock related presents
I went on a x-mas lockshopping spree at AliExpress. Mostly padlocks to get hold off lock types i currently don't own, i e tubular, cross, crescent and even a WAFER padlock. They put any sort of lock in anything it seems and they get bonus point for their pricing/free shipping

Now...
This is rather late, but my actual present arrived today!
I'm SOOOOOO happy!
