Need your help!

Hey gents,

I have had some questions and decided its best to just make one thread for them all. Any feedback would be appreciated so thank you in advance.

1: I have 2 American 700 series padlocks. One has the screw that holds the shackle in place exposed meaning I can easily take shackle off and the other does not. Instead it looks like its a rivet. So question is, what is that thing? Is it a cover that I can pry open?

2. Master Wafer Padlock Single Sided - Cant get any of the wafers to bind, tried high and low tension, tried tension from all angles etc and still nothing.

3. I recently replaced a POS mortise cylinder with a nice strong Medeco but against an Adam Rite Bypass tool they are the same. Does any one have any idea how to close/seal up that little opening in the back of a mortise? The Medeco did come with a plate cover but it didnt cover it completely.

4. I want to make my own tubular lock pick from a bunch of keys I have. I noticed that some of the keys have that little tension bit only on top of the key, only on the inside and some have both. Can anyone please bring some light to this dark area in my knowledge book?

For the American series 700, there is probably a bit of epoxy covering up the hex screw that allows you to remove the shackle.

Unless it's an older one that I am not familiar with, I thought they were all designed so the shackle could be removed.

Perhaps the right people haven't had the time to respond.
I'll try, for what its worth.
1. don't have any knowledge of American 700. http://youtu.be/eYLv9zc_tUY
2. try picking the other side.
3. solder/ braze very end.
4. I bought mine from SouthOrd. Other members have had luck with DH gate and Aliexpress.
somewhere on this forum are templates for making tension wrenches for tubular locks.

Not much help, I know.

The master wafer is single sided so there is no other side to try

Have not seen a 700 with only a one-sided wafer lock.

It may be made to prevent removal of the shackle. Can you remove the core?

I'd drill the center of that pin and use an extractor or screw to remove it. Then thread the hole (if it is not already threaded) and put in a set screw.

Indeed, pictures of HIS lock would help greatly. not just pictures he found elsewhere.

The lock pictured would be one of the "H-10" double sided wafer lock variety.

Also, I had no idea, if I understood correctly, that American made wafer locks in the 700 series so I see the reason for confusion but that picture was to serve to show that the screw to remove the shackle is cover/closed by something so a picture of my exact lock would have looked exactly the same since Im curious only about that cover/rivet.

The wafer lock I was speaking of is a Master Wafer, Single Sided that I am unable to get any binding on.

Wafer lock random thoughts;
Nothing binding? Try tension in the opposite direction.
OR
Does your tension tool have two points of contact on the plug? If not, it might be binding with the lock body instead. For example, on this American lock I can bend the tensioner but I'm not applying any tension to the plug.

Um, that picture that you linked was not an American 700. It was a very early version of this. http://www.idealblasting.com/h10lock.aspx which is a double sided wafer lock. I think that is where some of the confusion was coming from since you also had a Master wafer lock question in your post. If it is a metal piece blocking the screw it is most likely just a metal plug to prevent the average idiot from taking the lock apart and breaking it. I am not sure if it is just a screw cover or a metal rod that actually prevents removal of the shackle.
