Does any manufacturer make/use spooled key pins?

Lab makes spooled key pins for SFIC/Best type locks.

Re: We mustn't fail the MossMan!

As I look through the "High-security Mechanical Lock" book, I see only a couple with spooled keypins.
But even then, it looks like they normally only throw one spooled keypin into the mix. (e.g. DOM-S p66)

Re: We mustn't fail the MossMan!

ASSA does use spooled keypins in their older locks. The ASSA 700s had them fairly commonly. The ASSA ones are extremely difficult to pick... they slip past the shearline with their beveled tips and false set on you... and you can never open the lock. I've also seen spooled keypins in a Falcon SFIC. Dorma also uses spooled keypins but they aren't nearly as evil as ASSA.

Re: We mustn't fail the MossMan!

I got the padlock back today...first, the good news! I got the lock apart and found a BENT spool pin! Also the 3rd pin is too short yet the key worked.

I replaced both of the spool pins as they looked worn. Replaced the bottom pin, tested the lock, and it worked!!

Now, the bad news. The lock is back together, the key turns and springs back a bit and the lock will not open :(

Re: We mustn't fail the MossMan!

I gave in...drilled the shear line and turned the cylinder with a screwdriver and it opened.
I have the whole thing apart and now I am suspecting a bad actuator.

I have placed all the parts in a baggie and will attempt resurrection at another time. I spent over an hour working on it last night!!

Re: We mustn't fail the MossMan!

I ordered an actuator for a series 700 padlock which I'm hoping will fit.
jruther sent me a replacement cylinder a while back. We should be on the right track!

Re: We mustn't fail the MossMan!

The cylinder is in a box with other stuff that needs to go out to be rekeyed.
