"Forever Lock" - Ridiculously Awesome Design (Pics + Video!)

Hey Guys,

Today I got my hands on a real doozy!

It's called a "Forever Lock" (that's what I am calling it anyway) and it has maybe the most clever design for a lock I have ever seen!

Trying to explain this lock in text will just get confusing~ it will be MUCH more clear if you just watch my video demo.

Check out my Video demo here:

Here are some pics to check out:

**THIS IS THE KEY HOLDING CHAMBER, NOT THE KEYWAY**

Image
**THE KEY MUST NOW BE ROTATED INTO THE LOCK BODY AND PUSHED INTO THE HIDDEN KEYWAY**

Any ideas on how to pick this one fellas??

EDIT:

MESSAGE TO ANY GUESTS OF THE FORUM:

**THIS LOCK, LIKE ALL OTHER LOCKS, CAN BE DESTRUCTIVELY OPENED. THIS WAS ONLY A DEMONSTRATION OF THE LOCKING MECHANISM***

People are now misquoting me all over the place. In the video all I said is that it looks un-shimable and there is no where to put your picks, so you can't traditionally pick it.

Some people are now misquoting me and saying that I am claiming it can't be broken~ which is insane.

That's very clever indeed. Very unique - I personally have never seen anything even close to that.

marduk, that lock is just awesome. When you said it was a clever lock you wasn't lying, and i really don't see anyway to pick it without dismantling part of it, if that's even possible. unpickable maybe? Good find!

It seems impressionable. Put some putty/foam/whatever can be imprinted on into that chamber and make a mold of the result and then cast a key from that. Really cool concept though, another great find! :)

Thats really cool. Only thing stopping a person from picking it is the access blocking mechanism. So you could disassemble it (destructively most likely) then gain access to the cylinder. Makes me wonder what the keyway looks like. Very cool lock. I would sell these to bicyclists in large cities.

Cool lock!

The first thing that comes to mind to open this lock would be foil impressioning.

Wow, "a damn cool lock" indeed. I'm left speechless after the demo. That is simply one of the most unique designs I've seen in this short life of mine. Totally, totally awesome.

Naturally, want one!

Huge thanks for sharing that. A really beautiful mechanism.

Impression it using a Tootsie Roll. Or Something along that kind of material.
Plus if it doesn't work you can always eat the candy.

This thing is so fun to play with, I felt like a kid playing with a action figure again!

To impression this lock would you need a key blank or just any key?

LOL, that sounds like a good idea! Unfortunately I think only the key chamber is shaped like a tootsie roll! The actual keyway would be flat similar to other dimple locks so I think the tootsie roll would just give the lock a chocolaty flavor.

Re: "Forever Lock" - Ridiculously Awesome Design (Pics + Vid

You could use a blank key to impression the lock, or you could get any key that fits this lock, machine all cuts to slightly below the maximum depth & if necessary shape the key slightly so that it can accept a suitably shaped piece of foil. I'm sure that answers your question, but in more detail :

To impression with a blank is straightforward - insert & "load" the key into the lock & then turn the key inside the lock to produce marks. Unload the key, remove material where there are marks & repeat this whole process until the lock opens.

To impression with foil, the specially prepared key is wrapped with foil, inserted & loaded into the lock & then gently wiggle the knob that turns the key back and forth until the lock opens.

Whilst this lock certainly seems invulnerable to picking, I would be very surprised if it won't open via impressioning. The foil method would probably work very quickly.

Thank you for the insight! Much Appreciated.

Did you guys see the YouTube page!? My video got almost 100,000 views today!! Holy cow!

I removed the comments because 95% were people telling me that locks are able to be destroyed or saying I talked too much. HAHAHA, I guess they are right on both accounts, but I don't need to see it 1000 times.

91 k views on that video in one day. How? That is pretty amazing in its self aside from the amazing lock.

Your video got that many views because of the Bridge in Paris. You can buy a padlock and engrave your name and your lovers name on to it, and then lock it onto the mesh fence over a river. Then you throw the key into the river and seal your love forever. "Forever Lock."
