Anyone know what this is ?

Hi all

I was given a couple of old padlocks the other day, no keys.

I haven’t opened this one yet – I’ll have to soak and lube it as it has been out doors for most of its live and is a bit gummed up.

One of the locks has no brand on it and what looks like a restricted keyway. On the back (?) of the lock there is a pin and slot. See pic. I didn’t do the filing that you can see and haven’t tried to move the pin. I’ve never seen one of these before. Could it be to remove the core. The body of the lock is about 1 3/4 inches square.

Can anyone tell me what it is/for?

Thanks in advance.

That pin holds the lock cylinder in the padlock. Looks like somebody mangled it when the went to rekey it. If you pick it and ull that pin you can take it apart.

Thanks Riyame.

I had a feeling that that was what it was for - just never seen one before.

There is some filing/grinding on the other side, like some one was looking for the pin plus some other mangling.

I also think that the lock is quite old.

Thanks again. When I get it opened I'll post the pics.

Cheers.

It has definitely been re-keyed before that's for sure.
