Old Burg No. 99 Cutaway

Hey everyone,

I wanted to have a cutaway like this for a long time and now I finally have one! I know a collector who has one of those in a brand new condition and even in the original box. Sadly mine is not in a that good condition and I do not have the box but I still love it :)

I had a conversation with Solomon saying the old Burg padlocks would have the “real” levers that you can not over lift. Now looking at the cutaway I think that I was wrong… You can probably over lift them. I have no idea what the security wafers are for. Maybe they are just there to make sure the levers will hold in place and not become wedged with each other.

Thanks Solomon for all the info and insights on lever locks. It seems I was able to understand the Kromer Protector but was not able to get in touch with the simpler lever locks. At least not until he helped me out a bit!

A video will follow shortly.

I hope you enjoy :D

What a beautiful cutaway! Thank you so much for sharing this

I believe a picture of the key is missing (unless you don't want to post it of course!)

The pictures were made in a hurry and just cut (no editing). So please no complaints :P

You want to get the cutaway or the lock :P?
The cutaway is like impossible to get I have only seen it twice on Ebay and I paid some serious money on this one :(
The padlocks are sometimes on the German Ebay but most sellers only ship to Germany I can look out for one though. Most of the time I buy them anyway :D

That lock just rocks!
Would love to have one cut away or not.
How old are these locks?
Great pictures thanks for showing this!

@dicey...The "security wafers" are just brass spacers to stop the levers jamming with each other. We have 'em in a lot of mortice locks over here for the same reason. They wont hinder your picking if your wires are slim enough...Brilliant pics....love 'em

Hey dark horse thanks for supporting me with the right word mate! Jamming! That is what I was trying to say with "become wedged with each other" Thanks mate :D

I added your information about the "security wafers" with a little "thank you" for supporting me with the right words mate :)
Just look at the video description!

I also have to mention that the lock in the video is slightly restored and cleaned. I used a light rust loosener along with a cleaner on it and then later preserved the whole lock with synthetic oil. You may notice the difference in the video.

What padlock are you bidding on mate? I haven't seen such a cutaway since ages and now mine of course. I have checked the German Ebay yesterday and most of the time the German sellers will not sell overseas but I sometimes buy things for friends on the German Ebay and then get it on the way for them.

Send me the auction via PM if you want to, I will not bid on it mate :)

I am sorry that the price may go up now because of me mate :(

Don't worry, I was kidding my friend, no bad feelings at all

One of the auctions I was bidding on didn't go up and I got the padlock at a good price. I missed the other one due to a connection problem I had right when I was going to place the last bid... my bad!
Well I'm going to get a burg padlock similar to this, not the one like this. Both padlocks were not cut away, that's why you didn't find them on ebay.
I'll post a picture as soon as I get the padlock.

Cheers :)
