I'm unsure exactly what the purpose of this number pad is ?



The gate can easily be opened with the usual exposed mechanical levers, so I can only imagine that this is used to house a key, or its just for decoration ?

Locks only keep honest people out or situations can change often it's an insurance company demanding something, if they require a lock on a tent in the garden you put a lock on a tent in the garden but anything could have happened there might have been a taller fence, it might have had barbed wire, anything could have happened. The lock looks old so it might even have been a door/gate from somewhere else thats been used. Often the answer is that it just is.
