J.B. Miller Keyless Lock Co combo lock. Padlock #38

Just picked this up on ebay with a couple of Wiselocks.

Instead of using numbers, the dial clicks on each line. You do the first number of clicks, then you go the opposite way a number of clicks, etc for a total of 4 numbers. This one has the original combo tag and is a bit corroded :(

Neat little find. Interesting. Thanks for sharing it Eric... I like lookin'. Are you able to manipulate it? Or haven't ya really played with it much yet?

I've come across several fairly old combos (one might have been somewhat similar to that) and I usually don't have much success crackin' em'.

Not sure if you can really manipulate it. It has 4 numbers, but the first 2 are the same so you only need the last 2 to actually open it.

How's this for an old bump? :)

I've recently (well... tonight... lol) taken an interest in these. This company produced a number
of different models - the mechanism is quite fascinating really. Even more intriguing though is
that we seem to be at a loss if a particular series is not listed in the Reed Code Books. After
surfing the web for some time tonight it seems no one has a method to manipulate these.
Is this the case? Does anyone know and/or heard of anything? Just curious.

I have had no luck trying to figure out any JB Miller click locks. I have some with 4 numbers and 5 numbers starting left others right. And then there is the Automatic 29 nightmare that does not stop turning right or left just turns forever and it has the dot index you start from but never know if it starts right or left. Does not take but about an hour your fingers are too soar to continue for at least 2 days. Number 248 on the shackle and that is one that is missing in the Reed books. This one is as bad as they get. Works like a maze right number of clicks the shackle actuator drops down to the next level until it gets to the end it opens. If you had to use one of these many times a day you would look for a different lock to use soon.

As far as I know there is no yet known manipulation method for them. On the antique lock forum they have access to more codebooks than we do and can usually get the codes.

I'm thinking 'sound' might be the way to go. No doubt it's been tried.
Hooking up a how powered mic to it. Anyone? Any thoughts?

Wizard, I don't know if this will work, but it doesn't look like your having any luck either way, so here goes nothing. Try L8-R3-L6-R2 Let me know if it works or not, Mark
