Humane Restraint locking mental hospital restraints

Ok, these should fit in this category, as they have locks, use a key, and are old.
I got these from my neighbor when he was the facility manager at a psychiatric hospital, they no longer use restraints on the patients apparently.
Here's an overall view:

These were used on the beds in the isolation rooms for unruly patients, here's a closer look at the wrist strap, note the locking post:

here's the lock, this hole is where the locking post fits:

here it is locked, note the locking piece in the hole, this would engage the slot on that post:

A look at the key, pretty simple:

Here's the side of the lock, there is a single pin in there that has to be raised by that key, allowing the locking piece to slide out:

Those are a old style that's not used often anymore, the newer one use a mag lock on them ;)
and they still use restraints on patients.

these are still made, and the company still exists, although the key is an Ace tubular style now. this company has been around since the 1900's!
AW, there are also ones that use a basic handcuff key, and these I have are from the 70's

Just when you think you've learned it all, that is when you find you haven't learned anything yet.

Re: Humane Restraint locking mental hospital restraints

I had a look at the magnetic ones that are in use now, they're pretty cool. The keys are shielded so they do not interfere with the electrical stuff in hospitals and pacemakers etc. Not something that you will be getting out of if you find yourself strapped into one, unlike those old ones...
