3 YES- Magnetic Dimple Lock (Pics + Video)

Hey Guys,

Here's a neat and hard to find Lock with a special trick! I was really lucky to find it in a fantastic condition!

The 3 YES lock has 8 normal pins on top and 2 magnetic pins on bottom which need to be moved by two magnets located in the key!

I also compare it with the SITER Lock, as it made by the same company around the same time!

Here's a demo video:

Here are some pictures:

Sorry I couldn't try and pick this thing, but I don't have any small magnets. Would love to see someone do it though!

Looks cool. I got about a million small magnets of various sizes!

And when the tag says "The locks never been picked" - well red rag to a bull!

Re: 3 YES- Magnetic Dimple Lock (Pics + Video)

Another nice find!

I have picked a very similar padlock years ago. The key had stopped working, I suspect that the magnets in the key had lost their strength. I picked the normal pins & then hit it with a screwdriver handle, in an attempt to displace the magnetic pins. It worked quite quickly. Had I not known the lock contained the magnets, I would've been stumped!

HuxelyPig: Yeah, that's quite a bold thing to put on the tag!

The letter codes on the key tag are different for each lock. I wonder If the letters relate to the magnets (i.e strength/ polarity?)

Mercurial: Thanks!

Oh wow~ that's cool! Do you still have it in your collection? Did you find it in Australia?

Re: 3 YES- Magnetic Dimple Lock (Pics + Video)

I just thought of something:

I wonder if someone could design a security feature with extra "magnetic security pins". They would be spread throughout the lock~ that way if you just put a general magnet in there that wasn't in the exact correct position, it would raise one or more magnetic security pins high enough to block the shear line.

Does something like that exist?

Unfortunately the lock wasn't mine, a friend asked me for help
when it stopped working on him & he wanted to keep it in spite of not being able to use it anymore.

The lock was in Australia. I asked my friend where it came from, so I could get one, he said his Dad came back from Singapore with it.

Check out the Avocet ABS, that use a randomly placed magnetic pin...there are lots of magnetic hybrid/magnetic locks.

Thirard also makes a pin-in-pin lock like a MTL that has one of the pinstacks randomly as a magnetic pin to match the key. Think the model is the Federal.

Just when you think you've learned it all, that is when you find you haven't learned anything yet.

They have the production of the lock on license from Avocet, same lock. Easy to pick too as it happens, the trap pins are a bit of a PITA but you can still pick your way out of them.
