Dimples on Abloy Protec(1) keys

What do the dimples on Abloy Protec keys do exactly? There doesn't seem to be anything in the lock they interact with, at least with the padlocks I have.

I've read the Han Fey documents and they don't really go into much detail on the dimples.

Look on page 10 of the Han Fey write up. Under the section on the disc controller.

But with the key inserted fully, the dimples are not in the cylinder.

There is parts that are just below the keyway protection plate that grab the key when it is turned. Those things are what goes into the divots. It ensures the key is in all the way before being turned and that the key is not pulled out while it is turned.
