Move a Safe

I need some suggestions on how to move a 1 ton Safe!
Dimensions: 31'' Height, X 26'' Width, X 20''Depth
I will rent a truck to transport it, but how do I load it onto and off of the truck?

this may sound crazy, but an engine hoist or a tow truck. ive heard of ppl using both in a pinch, but then again, im from Missouri

Careful not to damage the floor if its soft. Lay down plywood if needed. Take the door off if it's not too hard.

You can get furniture or machinery moving dollies that can handle 1000 pounds or more. You can cut three or four pieces of two inch iron pipe about two feet long and use them like rollers. If you can get it on an old pallet then you could probably drag it with a winch on a cement floor. I've seen dollies made for under car wheels too. Maybe the local rental center has something.

A low trailer works easier than a high pickup truck. Maybe a landscaping trailer or snowmobile trailer with a loading ramp. An ATV or motorcycle jack can lift it straight up to the level of the trailer deck.

Find a truck that has a built in hydraulic lift on the rear so you can raise and lower into and off of the truck. Dollies are your best bet for moving it around, but get some ratchet strapping to secure it... don't want that tipping on your foot.

i remember a write up in locksmith ledger a few years ago that involved rather strong dollies, straps, and 2X4's (or something stronger) as leverage and supports for safety. the idea was to use a really low bed (like a lanscaping trailer) and winch it on up, but this sounds heavier than the one i read about. either way i'd like to hear how you get it done, and the advice that comes from this. i would imagine a fear of damaging the moving equipment more than damaging the safe itself. good luck.

I am 100 % serious when I tell you - people have been killed moving safes.

They are dangerous and difficult to deal with unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Any safe weighing more than a couple of hundred kilos should be moved by a professional.

Please don't attempt to DIY.

if you dont do this on a regular basis dont do it. Alot of tow companys do have their GO TO guys that can transport the safes. Like somebody said earlier it is very dangerous as well as a good way to wreck/break/damage things. For short distances we wheel them outside and have tow company haul them. Just make sure they dont damage dial or handles. Again you can find one that has moved them in the past . That way if anything happens its on them.

I move/install safes for a living and a safe this large can kill you or at the very least do some serious damage to your real estate. We have thousands of dollars worth of equipment but this biggest thing we have is experience. You can move a safe like this with small diameter pipes and some wood, to load it onto a truck you are either going to need a ramp/winch setup or some type of boom/lift setup. Call around and get some prices for insured safe movers, you might find that it is much cheaper to pay a mover in comparison to a emergency room visit.

movint it around a flat surface is easy... moving it up a ramp... thats a whole other story bro...

we have a nice air lift that lifts safes and you can literally push em around with one finger but that wont help you push em up a ramp. use a hydrolic air lift with winch maybe...
