As some of you may know, one of my big hobbies is amateur radio. Anybody else here into the hobby? I'd love to schedule a time for some of us to try to make some long-distance HF contacts with one another.

The radio you see in that picture is an Elecraft KX3, originally purchased so I could work low-power when camping and such. I've since added on a number of components, but overall my station probably cost me between $2.5K and $3k.

There are far cheaper options to amatuer radio, though. So if you are considering getting a license (which I highly suggest!) don't let price dissuade you. Especially for VHF & UHF operation you can get on the air for under $50.
