I've been wanting to get a licence and into Ham for a while, but I never seem to be in the right place at teh right time with the money for a rig. A nice reference site I found last year:

Been on the raido since the late 70's use to just talk local the basic 40 channel's but since I got my base station here next to my comp I do mostley skip from a Cobra 2000 GTL base station,I use a Antron 99 Antenna and 100 wiskey's from it and love it.Been talking all over the US and Canada, and Jamaica as well as Mexico.Got my handheld about a month ago, it is a Baofeng UV-3R Mark 2 it dose from VHF 136-174 and UHF from 400-470 then my base dose from 26.065 to 28.305,the station I mostley listen to is 27.3850 in the daytime and from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm E.S.T you can find me my call letter's are 2X553. Look forward's to shooting the skip with you 73 to you and yours keep some of the flower's for your self
