Hi all.

Not exactly porn but I thought I would share this device with the members.

Many years ago I remember seeing this device on an inventors program and bought one. I thought that it was a great idea as I had stayed in a couple of hotels where the one key opened all doors (in Asia).

It is only for locking a door from the inside while you are also inside.

I haven’t seen another one for years (maybe I should get out more ) and found my one a few days ago when cleaning out a travel bag.

Am I the only one who had to sit there for a while and work out how this thing worked??!

I get it now I've thought about it. That little bit of metal sticking out at 90 degrees goes into the hole that the latch goes into and then the little pin sits tight up against the door.

Cool device man, especially useful if you were travelling I think because hotel doors are so easily compromised. This makes things a whole bunch more complicated!

I'm sure that a lot of people had to "nut it out". It's not instantly obvious and a buzz when you get it.

I didn't post detailed instructions but a little thinking and it all falls into place.

I love elegant engineering - simple solutions. Little things like the angled cut out for the plug that allows for different thickness doors and the fact that it will work on both left or right closing doors.

I purchased this about 35 years ago (yes I'm an old fart) and haven't seen one since.

Then again I haven't been looking. I'll keep my eye out. Might find some old stock at the local Locksmiths.

MrAnybody's request about seeing any for sale prompted me to do some searching. There is no patent number on it but I did find a similar device. It is more complicated, less strong, ugly and in general - less elegant.

There are also some VERY complicated (and expensive) devices to do the same job.

Search on “personal safety lock” and drill down a bit and you will find some examples – not the Master stuff.

If you haven't got one you can always use a chair wedged under the door knob

I have seen these before. they are quite old, and quite effective. I occasionally see them on Ebay.

It's a good idea, but what if the door closes tight? If a strike is installed correctly, the dead pin on the latch shouldn't drop in, and so this product wouldn't have any room to drop in either.

Here's another interesting product, it slips over the hinges to keep the door shut. I doubt it would work on both commercial and residential hinges though.
