Should you use any lube when putting a lock back together?
What are the holes for at the bottom of a bible... quick way to change pins? And did yours have a brass plate to seal the holes?

As you have gutted Master Lock Pro Series cylinders, how often have you encountered spool pins in every chamber?
I can't for the life of me remember where I heard or read it, but I have long had the impression that having 100% spool drivers is a no-no. Somewhere I learned that there should always be one regular or serrated driver to ensure that the key works well.
I ran into one of these Pro Series cylinders at a friend's this weekend that absolutely would not open. Gutted it and found 5 out of 5 spools. It would false set almost immediately, give very nice counter-rotation, then stop responding at all. The bitting was (bow) 21531 (tip), so not a super aggressive hi/lo or anything.
My friend and I both went after it for long periods of time with a wide variety of high-grade tools, TOK, BOK, original Rai bogotas...

They should definitely have one solid or serrated pin. But the problem would not cause the lock to not open. It causes a problem with inserting or removing the key. Sometimes if you have even slight rotation when inserting or retracting the key, the lock goes into a false set, binding the key. The solid or serrated pin keeps the lock from slipping into a false set.

The one exception being the new thin-lipped spools Assa is using in Lockwoods (and for all I know, other marques in the Assa Abloy stable). These pins are genuine spools but have the body only about 0.75mm dia smaller than the lip. Almost all new Lockwoods are pinned up with six of these straight from the factory. They're fantastic pins.
