S&G 6642 Information or Resources?

Hi all! :)

I'm looking for information about the Sargent & Greenleaf 6642 and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

I've had a search, but I'm not turning up much. I know that the 6642 has false gates. A mention that each wheel has 2 false gates which are always at the same location.

And that's it easier than the LaGard 3332 (I'm only part way through CPT1911's thread about them). Definitely on the wish list! These look like really cool mechanisms with the tomahawk and the cuts where the CPs would be!

My initial thoughts would be to graph each wheel individually and look for differences in the false/true signatures. Parking at the apparent lowest point, rinse and repeat.

I'm still very new at manipulation so I'm probably missing something fundamental here and might be biting off more than I can chew. But you never know unless you try! :D

There are three different wheels. They have 2, 4 and 5 false gates. From what I have seen they are randomly chosen for each lock. I think the information about the positions of the false gates is somewhere here in this forum.

Thanks, much appreciated!

Hadn't seen about the 2/4/5 false gate options. Good to know.

I'll keep on searching :)

Excellent, thank you!

I had made my way back to mid 2018's posts, would have taken me a while longer to get there :)

Much appreciated

Cracked my 6642 today!

Started AWL, just to see how much the false gates made the graph jump around, which it did! But I got a very convincing signature at 71, isolated it to wheel 3 and rolled with it.

Parked 1 & 3 at L71, 2 AR. Got a couple of low spots, 23 & 51 but nothing really jumped out, or matched the false gates template (thanks Martin Hewitt!), so took the lowest at 23.

1 AL, 2 @ R23, 3 @ L71. Wheel 1 read like a dream. Massive gate signature at 60, and 3 false gates perfectly matching the template!

Ran 2 around from 55 and it opened at 40!

61-40-71 Happy days :hbg:

Thanks!

This one felt particularly good

Got a Lagard 3330 to try next, once I've got it mounted.

Just opened it in 3 hours! My fastest open so far!

Thanks to the false gate templates, (thanks again Martin Hewitt!) and some targeted testing.

I know it could have been a bit quicker, I wasted time running wheel 3 on its own first, which gave me nothing to work with. Should have started with AWL like I usually do!

The false gates can help, but they can also delay. It is all the matter of experience and also luck. IMHO an open is an open and that is what is important at the end.

I hit a false gate on wheel 3, was the best signature on AWL graph.

Luckily also found wheel 2 true gate on the AWL graph too.

Went with some potential low points from the graph to test wheel 1, luckily found 2 gates fairly quickly, used the template to locate the true gate.

It didn't open yet, so I went back to wheel 3, looking at the template again and the true gate was where expected!

Plenty of luck and help from the false gates.

I'm sure it wont be that smooth next time :)
