Gardex GX1 Fire safe....

Hello all.

First off, great site. Have read all kinds on safe manipulation. Reason being is one was left at our house when we purchased and no code to be seen.
$400 Canadian Rupees to get some guy to drill it from the side. Not into that.

MY QUESTION IS: Does anyone know what Lock type is used in a older Gardex GX1 fire proof safe.

I am guessing it is a S&G 6730, and I know it has 3 wheels in the pack. Not sure if I dial L,R,L to enter the combo, or if its a different lock type, how that combo would have to be entered.

In fact, I am pretty sure I have 2 numbers in the combination now using AWL graphing. The high low test helps, but the condition of this dial may be making my contact point readings a little inaccurate there.
I have spun that dial so many times now that I no longer need the mechanics stethoscope to help me hear the gates, I can actually feel and see them. I feel like I am getting close and can not wait to throw that door.
Even if there is nothing in it. Being fairly mechanically minded, I have had a lot of fun learning about how these safe locks work, and i am looking forward most of all, to calling the gentleman back who I originally called for the quote to drill the safe, and tell him I did it myself by manipulation, and see if he offers me a job. lol..

Anyways,

Thanks in advance to ANYONE that can shed any light on this subject for me.
Until then, I will continue to try everything in my understanding to get this open, and share all my notes here when done.

Matt.

Re: Gardex GX1 Fire safe....

Thanks Bitbuster. I figured that was the case. Although there is only 3 wheels in the pack, I have mapped them out every two increments. I will be starting over again tomorrow.

Any other info is more then welcome.

when he wrote LRLR it means LRL and then a final R to retract the bolt.

Re: Gardex GX1 Fire safe....

Ok.

So after my 4th high low test on the first AND second number,
as well as re graphing the high points in increments of 1 another 3 times,
I am coming up with the same number for both wheel 3, and wheel 2.

Is this possible? would that not mean that you were spinning an extra wheel in the pack un intentionally?

I realize the numbers could be off by one digit, but after so much re checking I am finding that hard to believe as the contact points dont lie after going in increments of one.

I feel I am SOOOOOO close to defeating this thing, and Im about ready to run the combo with the second and third Digit as #70 like my research has shown.

Can ANYBODY share a little insight.

Thanks for your time.

Can you share any graphs?

Not sure how to upload the pics of my graphs.

Do I have to have the images on line and then post a link with the img button?

Re: Gardex GX1 Fire safe....

Ok. Think this has done it.

First number I found was 70ish.

The stars on the graph are conformation of the contact points. Like others have said, the more you do it, the soft touch you acquire.

My high low tests have confirmed 70 is the last digit, or wheel #3.
69 came out on wheel number 2 with the other high low test.

Test one was all wheels left

Test two was 1 & 2 wheels right, and 3 set to L71

Thanks in advance.

Re: Gardex GX1 Fire safe....

I think you mixed up your graphs. You graphed the right contact point on the left side and the left contact point on the right side. That means when the graph shows the CPs nearest they are in fact most far away. So for me 22 looks interesting.

Re: Gardex GX1 Fire safe....

Thanks Martin.

Unfortunately I have to take a break on the safe for the weekend. Im gonna re graph everything again next week starting from the first number, and I may switch my plot charts like you said.
Things were consistent when I re checked a slew of the numbers, so I know Im feeling things right. It could just be that simple.

Thanks.

Re: Gardex GX1 Fire safe....

MH is right, you've got your contact points backwards... you're measuring the inside of a gap where the nose drops in, so when you're turning right (clockwise) you'll hit against the left side of the gap, the LCP, and when you're turning left (ccw) you'll be hitting against the right side of the gap, the RCP. I don't think you need to re-graph everything, just cut the graphs you have along the line between the two sides, and switch them side-to-side so your 96-99 graph is on the left and your 7-10 is on the right. I agree with MH, according to the second graph, 22 looks really good... 42 and 78 also have some potential. On the first graph you can see some interesting things at 17 and 75, which could actually back up the interesting spots in 2nd graph with R/L offsets (R22 and L17 could be the same gate on w1 with a 4-5 digit offset, R78 and L75 could be w2 with a 3 digit offset, potentially).

Re: Gardex GX1 Fire safe....

Right on MadSamurai.

Thanks for the conformation. I knew I was on the right track but something so simple was wrong.

Like I said, I am off for the weekend and will get back to the safe on monday. I may just start over and re graph from scratch now that I have a soft touch.
Would be a waste of time but I am looking for accuracy, and to confirm everything once I swing the door and can open up the back of the lock.

Thanks again to all who have helped.

Will be back monday afternoon with an update.

matt.
