Here's a wheel pack I came across that I believe has to be an Oldfast discard from one of his practice locks...

Wow, that is actually quite impressive. That safe has seen a TON of use. Looks like some time in the past they blocked off the change key hole in the top wheel. I wonder if that was to prevent combination changes or to fix it after the mechanism broke.

I've seen the same think in a thread here. It seems to be a Mosler thing to keep the key from penetrating beyond the last (#1) wheel. Unless it just happens to be the exact same wheel that was in that thread. I'll have to look it up.

I think we had this cover up topic here some weeks ago. It was on a lock where the wheel pack was mounted in the cover. The purpose was probably to prevent the change key getting stuck in the drive cam.

Haha! Holy shit... that is THE most wear on a wheel post I've EVER seen.

Also, excited to see your changekey hole 'sealed-off' too! That discussion
was actually HERE when I came across one like this for the first time in a
Mosler. Martin's explanation seems to make the most sense.... especially
now that we see it again in your lock... before this, I wasn't sure if what
I had seen was an isolated incident - a make-shift homemade type thing.
Thanks for sharing these photos and helping to shed more light on this!

Geez.... still can't believe the view of that wheel post.

I thought you'd like the rib

When I first disassembled it, I thought maybe the hub was tiered on purpose- Each wheel had its own ID to sit on. I thought someone must have thrown some other wheels on it to sell. That thought was short-lived when I saw the groove for the isolation washers was worn through as well. I can't believe the safe was still functioning with that much wear. The wheels all measure good, so unless they were replaced, I don't see how the hub would wear and the wheels wouldn't. It's almost as though someone didn't clean out some steel filings.
