Quick(?) question: What are the "general tools" for TL-15?

I have seen that the requirement for TL-15 is net time against "general tools". In TL-30 there is an additional angle grinder / power saw. Can I assume "general tools" does include a drill? A drill rig? Is there a list of tools available? Am I right that "net time" is indeed the time when the tools are used on the safe and not the time for e.g. changing a drill or having a look?

Would imagine the same tools required - for no destructive entry on all containers

love the idea of thermite in a plant pot - for destructive  but core drills are getting more common

Are these core drills the huge ones (to get access to the contents) or the tiny ones (to get access to the lock)? I guess that the aluminum/corundum armor should be quite effective against this.

Ive Purchased several over the years - differing in size and been very happy with them starting back with lever lock

hard plate and so on - as you are fully aware are used a lot on lever locks - seen a few vids of side attacks with a much

bigger core drill and special constructed safe walls .... it had no problems possibly the most effective tool getting more

common thinking about this MH it would be my 1st choice or go to tool

General tools found on a typical construction site. That was what I was told it means. I have not read that anywhere but I trust my source.

I don't know if this will help Martin, but it may be worth your time to check it out. https://www.ul.com/inside-ul/cracking-t ... -of-safes/ It is a bit general, though I didn't take the time to search the site. I hope this is of some help.

bill phillips lists the tools in "locks and locksmithing"

"The TL in a classification means a safe must offer protection against entry by common mechanical and electrical tools, such as chisels, punches wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers and sledges (up to 8-pound size), and pry bars and ripping tools (not to exceed 5 feet in length)."

so basically if you can buy it in your local hardware store and it doesn't use heat it's fair game. i would think this will include drills and hand held grinders, but not jack hammers and similar industrial tools.

Under TL-15/Net Working Time Definition: ... NET working time of 15 minutes using "…common hand tools, drills, punches hammers, and pressure applying devices." ...
Under TL-30: ... Testors are allowed 30 minutes and a few more tools (abrasive cutting wheels and power saws) to help them gain entrance. ...

Are drills electrically powered drills or hand operated drills? I guess it is "electrically powered", because there is written on
https://www.ul.com/inside-ul/residentia ... d-options/
under RSC level 1 "drills" and level 2 "high-speed carbide drills" and carbide drills are only useful when electrically powered.

But this opens a new question: Are the TL-15 drills carbide drills?

About TL-15: "for a net working time of 15 minutes when attacked with common hand tools, picking tools, mechanical or portable electric tools, grinding points, carbide drills, and pressure applying devices or mechanisms"

And TL-30: "Addition of abrasive cutting wheels and power saws"

So I would say an electric power drill and a carbide tipped drill is included and probably also a drill rig.
