So I got back to the shop today our safe mover told me that he brought me something. An Amvault that with no combo, the boss bought it for next to nothing. I sat down in front of it thinking I was only going to see if the contact points were easy to read, and if I could find an indication of how a manipulation might go.
The dial and ring made me think it could possibly have a group 1m or 2m on it. Fortunately it gave steady readings not the up and down you find in the manipulation proof. I almost forgot, the spline key had been installed in the wrong spot and the drop was located between 26 and 33. I was a little put off by the drop being so far off from what I am used to but I figured I just had to change everything to the right by 25. I started taking readings at 40 and went all the way through 20 without any good indicators. I decided that maybe I needed to find a better place to park the wheels and so I spun AWR and I found 60 to be the lowest point. I parked 1 & 2 at 60 and when I got to 67 1/2 I found the grand canyon. It almost gave a whole number drop on the right contact. I thought it must be something I am doing wrong but I will complete the graph anyways and see where it goes. The graph was immaculate, the left and right contact were the most consistent I have ever seen on the readings. I made it all the way back around to 55 before I decided to set it up and test 67 1/2 again and again it gave a huge indication.
So I got to working on wheel 2 free spinning and not graphing. I got to 17 1/2 and again I got a nice indicator. It was not as drastic as wheel 3 but I set it up and tested it a second time. By this time I am feeling pretty confident that I was on the right track so I started testing combos that ended with 7 1/2. I tried everything and then I started trying going high and low in case one of the wheels was off. I tried them all again and started rocking the wheel back and forth to see if one of the gates could shift under the tapping of the fence. So now feeling a little disappointed I started trying combos at 0 and working up. Finally at 20 it opened. It has been a little while since I have had a successful opening, I really have not been putting in that much practice.
I need to learn to stick to the basics sometimes and exhaust those before I try anything else. Just in case someone wants to know what the interior looks like here is a photo.
