Has any seen a group 2 mounted like this before?

Went to a place today to open a safe and there was another cabinet with a standard s&g group 2 lock mounted like this.

Never seen such a combination lock, but at least old locks could be build also in a left configuration. The old Kromer combination lock case has two holes in the body for a change key. A left configuration would then be opened the inverse way.

I have come across several of these cabinets. I think the ones we had/have came from a GSA contractor. I still have one for sale where I work. . The locks are a bit confusing for some customers to properly work.

If I am not mistaken, the mounting has no effect on which rotation direction opens the lock. Some locks are simply designed to open the other way. The Yale OC-5 for example opens with a R-L-R, left to open dialing sequence. Sure it isn't common, but some are just made that way. The difference in design I would think would essentially be that the lever is "upside down" in design, mirrored over the axis of the lock bolt and the drive cam gate is also mirrored so as to interact with the mirrored lever.

It appears Webpirate's lock is a Center Manufacturing #100 and JSwistak has the S&G 8500 on the G-W. Have never seen either mounted LH.

Without taking the whole back of the drawer off all I could verify was it bits a S&G group 2 with the regular change key..
Either Monday or Wednesday I'm going to check it out.

Well, that takes the Center Man'f #100 off the list. Might be an S&G 6730.

This is kind of a goofy one. The way this lock secures this cabinet. There is a metal bar that runs almost the length of the side of the filing cabinet. There is a spring lever at the on the top, when it is depressed in the bar moves position and secure all of the drawers.


When the front sliding bar is in the depressed position and the combination lock is in the locked position this forces pressure on the spring locking bar and secures the cabinet.



When the lock is unlocked with the combination, the lock retracts and the spring lever forces the front sliding bar forward, thus unlocking the cabinet.
To lock the cabinet the front sliding bar must be depressed in and the lock set to the locking position.



Here is the inside of the drawer






The T-handle has nothing to do with the combination lock it is completely independent and just keeps the drawers closed then with combination lock is in the open position.
